Dave Russell

Dave Russell

Lead Pastor

Dave grew up in Charlotte, and after being gone for 15 years, returned to lead the replanting of Oakhurst Baptist Church in late summer of 2015. Prior to his time here at Oakhurst, Dave spent 5 years on staff at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC, where he also completed a pastoral internship. In 2010, Dave founded and directed the ministry of Campus Outreach DC.  He led a staff team of 12 to launch campus ministries at George Washington University, Georgetown University, and Howard University. Before moving to DC, he served in campus ministry in North Carolina for 10 years.

Dave earned his BA from UNC Charlotte and his Masters of Divinity at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he is presently pursuing his doctorate. Dave’s past speaking arrangements include the Together For The Gospel Conference and the Desiring God Conference for Pastors. Dave and his wife, Carrie, have four children.

Dave is committed to preaching Christ exalting, expositional sermons; making disciples in the local church; equipping church members to give themselves to evangelism, discipling others, and Christian hospitality; and raising up people to take the gospel throughout the Charlotte region and to the ends of the earth.
